‘EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION’ VERMONT EPISODE TO AIR DECEMBER 9

South Burlington’s IBEW Local 300 Helped with Electrical Work

South Burlington, Vt. – (Nov. 30, 2007) – Television viewers nationwide will soon see the craftsmanship of Vermont’s finest electricians.

ABC-TV recently announced the first-ever Vermont installment of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will run Dec. 9. Last September, the award-winning program spent a week in Athens, Vt., refurbishing the dilapidated home of the Vitale Family.  International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 300 members from Sherwin Electric and Central Vermont Public Service worked two full days on the initiative, which was guided by Brandon-based general contractor the McKernon Group.

Sarah and Lou Vitale have two young sons, Kane and Louie Angelo Jr. Louie was diagnosed with multiple birth defects, including Arthogryposis, club feet, and skeletal displasia.  Before the Extreme Makeover team intervened, their home's weak foundation was in immediate danger of collapsing. On stormy days, flooded hallways made the residence virtually impassable for emergency medical technicians.

“Our dedicated members were certainly honored to make life a bit easier for the Vitale Family,” said Local 300 Business Manager George Clain.  “We are enormously proud of the tasks our tradespeople performed in Athens and are thrilled to see these heroic efforts broadcast on millions of television sets.  This is a terrific example of the union way – strengthening communities with quality, hard work.”

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC. Hosted by popular television personality Ty Pennington, the show travels the country rebuilding homes of deserving families.
